Unlike the trekking-only South Base Camp in Nepal, Tibet's Everest North Base Camp can be reached via a spectacular high-altitude paved highway winding across the Tibetan Plateau. Departing from Lhasa, you journey past turquoise Yamdrok Lake, Karola Glacier, and Gyantse Kumbum to Shigatse. Cross the high passes of Gawu La (5,198m) for a panorama of five 8,000m peaks, reaching Rongbuk Monastery (5,000m) and standing directly in front of the colossal North Face of Mount Everest (8,848.86m).
An 8-day overland tour with modern transport, oxygen-equipped vehicles, Tibetan guide, Tibet permits, and views of Everest's famous North Face.
