Tansen, the historic capital of the ancient Magar Sen kingdom of Palpa, is a picturesque hill town perched high on the southern slopes of Shreenagar Hill. Renowned for its handwoven Palpali Dhaka fabric and metal Karuwa water jugs, Tansen features winding cobbled alleys and Newari architecture. A short excursion brings you down to Rani Mahal (Queen's Palace), an extraordinary 1893 neoclassical palace perched atop a massive rock over the turquoise Kali Gandaki River, known as Nepal's Taj Mahal.
