Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is Nepal's first designated Ramsar wetland site, situated along the floodplains of the mighty Sapta Koshi River in eastern Nepal. Globally renowned as one of Asia's finest birdwatching havens, it hosts over 526 recorded bird species, including hundreds of migratory waterfowl flying over the Himalayas from Siberia and Tibet. Koshi Tappu also protects the last surviving herd of wild water buffalo (Bubalus arnee, locally called Arna), Gangetic dolphins, and fishing cats.
