A grand circular loop through the Khumbu that showcases six sacred glacial lakes, climbs Gokyo Ri (5,357m) and Kala Patthar (5,545m), and crosses the glaciated Cho La Pass (5,360m).
The Gokyo Lakes and Cho La Pass Trek is widely considered the most scenic high-altitude route in the Everest region. By branching off the classic trail at Sanasa, you enter the quieter Gokyo valley, home to turquoise glacial lakes fed by the Ngozumpa Glacier. After scaling Gokyo Ri for a panorama encompassing four 8,000-meter giants (Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu), you traverse the snowfields of Cho La Pass into the Khumbu valley to touch Everest Base Camp.
